Located in central Mississippi, Brandon is primarily a residential community complimented with suburban retail and light industrial businesses. According to statistics compiled in December 2004 by the Mississippi Development Authority, Brandon has a population of 16,436 residents with an average income of $624 per week or a per capita income of $26,053 annually.

The Brandon Fire Department staffs three stations with thirty six paid fire fighters and fire officers, ten non-paid reserves, and five administrative personnel. Last year the department responded to 1,820 calls with an operations budget of 2.6 million dollars.
